ESB are about to announce a “feed-in tariff” for power returned to the grid, its 9 cent per unit, a step in the right direction. Sunpeak recognize all the work that has gone into this, from SEI,ESB ,CER, IWEA and many more, and we look forward to the imminent release of applications for micro-generation funding.

Gaia-Wind TurbineWe would like to announce the installation and commissioning of the first “Gaia-Wind” turbine in Ireland. It’s an 11kW grid tied system installed by Sunpeak in Wicklow. Wind Turbines are becoming more economical. In today’s climate it’s the one investment that won’t lose your money.

Sunpeak are delighted to announce the commissioning of our 5kW grid connected wind turbine. This system will produce E3,000 per year working at 50% capacity. Initial tests look very promising. We will keep you posted on its output over the coming year.

Dublin, 16th April 2008
Sunpeak Ireland are delighted with Minister Ryans announcement below and await further info from Sei.

Energy Minister, Eamon Ryan today announced a pilot grant scheme which will allow users to generate electricity for their own use.

Electricity will be generated via small-scale technologies such as wind turbines and solar power, with the potential to sell excess power back to suppliers.  Grant support to meet 50% of the initial start up costs will be made available for the installation of microgeneration systems in approximately 50 trials to be conducted nationwide.

Speaking at the annual SEI Energy Show at the RDS, Minister Ryan said, “We are starting to make great strides with large-scale renewable energy, which will impact on power generation on a national level. Today, we focus on small scale generation in commercial sites and domestic dwellings.”

With €2 million being provided in 2008 by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, the programme will be administered by Sustainable Energy Ireland in conjunction with key stakeholders, including the Commission for Energy Regulation, ESB Networks and electricity suppliers.  The scheme follows a change in regulations last year allowing people to sell electricity back to the grid. It will provide the groundwork for consideration of a set feed in tariff for electricity produced through microgeneration.

Welcoming the programme, Minister Ryan said, ‘This scheme will empower electricity users to take action.

The change in regulations last year has cleared the way for Irish people to sell electricity back to the national grid. This, along with today's announcement and the roll-out of smart meters will ultimately mean that everyday in every home people can use power in the most efficient manner possible.

We know from international experience that microgeneration can provide a sustainable, reliable and affordable alternative to the traditional methods of power generation. It is time to provide such an alternative here.”

28 January 2008,

Presently SEI has no grants available for wind technology. Funds may be made available later in the year for some demonstration projects.

SEI fails to see the urgency in implementing this technology, but here in Sunpeak we don't. We have plans to erect 3 x 5kW turbines in March this year. Wind Turbines and micro-generation for small and large scale development will become essential in the future. At Sunpeak we try to keep ahead of the latest technology, quality and reliability are key. Our 5kW wind turbine system is substantial for any home, stop worrying about high energy costs, be one of the first to generate your own power. We have an abundance of wind energy in this country just waiting to be harnessed.

Prices are available on request and site survey.

Wind Power news:

Sunpeak Ireland in conjunction with Sustainable Energy Ireland are about to embark on a project to show the benefits of micro generation in the home. Micro generation is classed as turbines under 6kW in power. We have eliminated the need for batteries with the use of grid tied inverters from Germany. The inverters use the grid electricity to stabilise the electricity produced by the wind turbine. Any electricity not used will be returned to the grid. Presently you will not be credited with the electricity returned to the grid so use it or loose it.

This will change in time as it has in most European countries, which now pay customers for excess power. It's just a matter of time and government will. The Irish Wind Energy Association is currently lobbying the government on this point.

One 5kW wind turbine, working at 50% capacity will produce just over 3000 euro of electricity in one year. This would be a substantial saving on any utility bill and cannot be ignored any longer.

Updates will be posted on our website.

Wind Energy use in Ireland.

At Sunpeak we are dedicated in our effort to offer quality renewable energy systems at reasonable cost. Forever looking forward, we now introduce our range of grid connected wind turbines for domestic use. From running geo-thermal pumps to powering your home wind is a valuable source of energy often overlooked. Our turbines come to us from our partners in the USA, Four Seasons Wind Power. We have eliminated the need for batteries by utilising inverters made by SMA in Germany.

When the turbine is working you must use this power as any excess will be returned to the national grid. Presently the ESB will not pay you for this power or credit you for it, but with the introduction of smart meters nationwide it is only a matter of time until this is remedied.

The power of the wind is now within our grasp and we believe by using the best quality products available we can reduce and eventually eliminate your ESB bill.

We can now offer almost any size wind turbine from 300W to 1.5MW. Obviously planning restrictions are in place for the large systems, but for domestic systems up to 5kW there are no restrictions as we keep the turbine under 10 meters.

  • Cut-in wind speed: 2m/s
  • Cut-out wind speed: 30m/s
  • Rated wind speed: 10m/s
  • Rated speed (RPM): 220
  • Survival wind speed: 50m/s
  • Wind energy ratio (%): 0.42
  • Generator: Permanent magnetic generator
  • Generator rated power (W): 5,000
  • Maximum output power (W): 6,000
  • Output voltage (VDC): 48/120/240

  • Over speed protection: automatic
  • Output protection: Auto-Furl
  • Charging control: Automatic
  • Net weight, no tower (kg): 300
Working Principle and Features:
Wind energy is used as kinetic energy to provide low speed rotation of a permanent magnet generator to produce
Alternating current which is then converted to direct current by a controlled constant voltage rectification system. The resulting voltage being stored in a battery(s), or fed directly into an SMA Windy Boy grid-tie inverter.

14 June 2007,
With the news today of Green Party members about to take seats in Government one can only hope the green spin dished out by all parties in the run up will transform into real policy change when it comes to the environment and renewable energy. More grants for existing technology, new grants for wind energy and pressure on the ESB to pay for the electricity we can produce at home. Real achievable targets for co2 emissions. Fingers crossed?

Carraroe, Co. Galway / Athlone, Co. Westmeath - Sunpeak Ireland is proud to announce our new business launch. With growing pressure on the environment and our finances it just makes sense to look at renewable fuels. Clean, renewable and safe for future generations. The initial outlay is more expensive than traditional oil and gas so the government has stepped up with a range of grants to offset the setup costs of renewable energy systems, details available on our website www.sunpeakireland.com or Sustainable Energy Ireland @ www.sei.ie

Now is the time to act whether building, renovating or buying, thinking green will save you money in future. New building regulations have been introduced by minister Roche, all new buildings and new to sale buildings will have to have an energy rating which will affect sale price, so be wise, and invest now for the future.

We supply and install solar evacuated tube systems, biomass heating systems, and grid connected wind turbines. Quality and efficiency are key in all renewable products, all our systems are registered with Sustainable Energy Ireland and are of the highest possible standards. Over the past three years we have developed strong contacts and working relationships with our partners in Ireland, Europe and the Far East. Our solar panels have just been awarded the solar keymark, the highest quality mark available for solar products worldwide. We offer free survey, design, quotation and advice.
